Mystic Wine Merlot 02
winery: Mystic Wine
Big, rich, unusually complex and layered, a step above most Merlots in quality and satisfaction.
Nose: black chery, black raspberry, hints of clove and cinnamon;
Flavors: sweet fruit with dark notes of anise, licorice, pie spice, and barrel toast;
Finish: Long, structured, with seamless tannins, balanced acidity, lots of black fruit and nice barrel toast.
Rick is quite knowledgable about barrels, and this wine has attractive vanilla, toast, cedar and oak notes that enhance the overall impression and richness.

MORE INFORMATION
Northwest Palate says: "Highly Recommended. Cedar, berries, and light herb in the nose. Rich, mouthfilling flavors of cassis and toasty oak spice. Soft, ripe tannins and bright acidity yield a wine to drink now; pair with porchetta. (350 cases made.)"The winery says: "The benchmark and mainstay of Mystic has always been our Merlot and this year is no exception. Classic Red Bordeaux structure polished and redolent of years past. Wild blackberry and vanilla oak spice lend mature fruit flavors to the soft yet solid balance and lingering finish. By themselves, Hillside Vineyard Merlots don't intrude, yet you find yourself noticing the subtle pleasure of each sip and subsequent glass; a perfect compliment to roasts and venison as well as hearty winter stews. How about another bottle?"
