Patricia Green Cellars Winderlea (Goldschmidt) Vineyard 07

Winery: Patricia Green

Patricia Green Cellars Winderlea Vineyard 07 is made from the vineyard previously known as Goldschmidt Vineyard. It has always been one of their most sought after wines. Highly recommended.

From the winery:

This is a new vineyard to us ONLY in the sense that the vineyard, formally known as Goldschmidt Vineyard, was sold and re-named after the 2006 harvest. It is now owned by Bill Sweat and Donna Morris and they have been kind enough to keep selling the two main blocks that we have been getting fruit from since 2002.

This is one of the great older-vine vineyards remaining in the Dundee Hills. Our two blocks were planted in 1974 and 1975. Year in and year out the fruit from this site produces some of the densest, ripest and most sultry wines in the cellar. There simply is no replacement for well-tended older vines and while ownership has changed the commitment to high quality fruit has, if anything, intensified and we look forward to a long relationship.

The impact of the 2007 vintage is perhaps most seen on the particular bottling. Generally wines from this vineyard, almost without regard to producer, are smooth, rich, sultry and laden with fruit.

Our 2007 is the most structured wine, along with the Whistling Ridge Vineyard bottling, from the vintage. While the sensation of the lavish, dark fruit is there the dominant note of cloves, spice and heavy tannins will be the dominant theme allowing the fruit to come to the party as a guest rather than being the star of the party as per normal. This creates an interesting take on this vineyard and wine.

The heavy, creamy fruit lingers beneath a veneer of tannins and crazy aromatics. This is pretty wild stuff right now that will no doubt garner heavy praise for what it is. What it will be though is the most important thing and with old vines from a beautiful site, well, it will be a thing of beauty to those patient enough to wait for it. 180 cases bottled.

Previous Vintage tasting notes

2004 Vintage Tasting Notes

The wine is loaded with sweet red cherries, red, earthy spices and iron-like nuances to the long, seamless finish. The fruit is balanced with a supple texture that is buoyed by ultra-fine tannins.

Rich, well structured, ageable, layered flavors, very limited and only available to Wine Club Members.

2003 Vintage Tasting Notes

From the winery: "Folks this is about the wine. And what a wine it is. This is the oldest vineyard that we work with, planted in 1974, and one of the oldest in Yamhill County. Located at the top of a well-defined bowl on the west side of Worden Hill Rd. north of Dundee this vineyard is a very warm site and in 2003 it was the first stuff we picked. This is true blue Dundee Hills Pinot Noir. The wine is loaded with sweet red cherries, red, earthy spices and iron-like nuances to the long, seamless finish. The fruit is balanced with a supple texture that is buoyed by ultra-fine tannins. Perhaps one of the more forward of the wines from 2003 due to the site.

While the fruit is as big and expressive as any vineyard we harvested in 2003 the wine is contained enough that is not go to the dark side and become a formless fruit-bomb. If you like 'em big, jazzy and pumped full of fruit goodness than you should check this out. 190 cases bottled."

2002 Vintage Tasting Notes

2002 vintage notes: If you want a hedonistic in your face gushing fruit flavors boisterous kinda Pinot noir, the Patricia Green Cellars Pinot noir Goldschmidt Vineyard 02 is the wine for you. So forward it almost jumps out of the glass at you, this wine is a raucous delight. Big toasty cocoa bean nose is followed by huge red cherry and black cherry flavors, shot through with buttery hints of oak and plum.

New vineyard for Patty and Jim, it is owned by the former Governor of Oregon, Neil Goldschmidt and has already produced grapes used in top rated wines.
