Detailed Info, Previous Vintage Notes, Reviews:

From the winery:

HISTORY: Ponzi Chardonnays, along with Oregon Chardonnays, have evolved tremendously over the last 30 years. Consistent quality and true Chardonnay varietal character are achieved through experimentation, discoveries, and new tools. Clonal selection and control of yields, and balancing acidity with fruit are of critical importance. This wine is made from 100% Dijon clones from vines ranging from four to 10 years old.

HARVEST 2000: A mild summer and dry fall brought fully mature, clean, sound fruit. Grapes were selected and harvested from Durant Vineyard situated in the Dundee Hills and, our own, Aurora Vineyard in the Chehalem Mountains. The clones are Dijon 76, 96, 75, and 95.

FERMENTATION: The fruit was whole cluster pressed and the juice moved to French oakbarrels (25% new) where it was fermented with native yeasts. Malaolacticfermentation was spontaneous and 100%. Lees were stirred once a week for six months. After 18 months of barrel age the wine was pushed with air totank for blending then bottled by gravity without filtration. This wine hasbeen aged in bottle for 12 months before its release. Alcohol is 13.9%.Finished pH is 3.35.
