Reininger Merlot Walla Walla 05 - Cab? Syrah? NO. Try Merlot - offering up a nose of cherry-tobacco and cardamom scented chocolate, evolving into intense black cherries with pillow-soft tannins before pushing out a touch of plum and a small, unlit, fresh hand rolled cigar...ette...

This elegant Walla Walla Merlot is extremely concentrated with flavors of chocolate and spice. Velvety, currant, cocoa-espresso flavors reveal lush black currant and plum, while mingling in exotic brown spice. The wine is supple and polished, finishing with an offering of dried cherry gently dipped in chocolate.

Wine Press NW says: "Winemaker Chuck Reininger shows consistency at the highest levels by earning his second Platinum in as many years with Washington's hallmark red wine. This effort emphasizes Reininger's austere use of oak that allows the plush cherry to shine in the aromas and flavors. Lovely balance of ripe fruit, well-managed tannins and good acidity give this a plethora of food-pairing possibilities. Won double gold at the Washington State Wine Competition and gold at the Northwest Wine Summit."
