I still have a fair amount of each vintage of this particular wine ever made. The 2000 is still my favorite, and David has asked to buy some of it back from me (twice). This wine is certainly the most full bodied of his Yakima Red offerings to date. It does not have the polish in its youth that the '04 has, nor the aromatics or plush mouthfeel (etc.) that the 2000 had, but it is certainly new world ripe. This is curious due to the 2005 vintage, as most of the Owen Roe wines are not as big in 2005 as his previous vintages, but this wine is an exception. Dark fruits, cherry liquer, currant, plum, pepper, a bit of zing from the tannins, that lovely dried herb (sage?), tobacco (once it opens up), and quite jammy. The tannins are quite well integrated but thankfully enough to prefer laying the bottle down for at least 2 years before drinking any. I am probably going to up my purchase to 2 cases instead of 1. |
