Power Pomerol: 93+ (4/5) Mar 17, 2007 Frank R. Baltimore MD US
Labeled as a Merlot, this wine is actually a Bordeaux (Pomerol) blend dominated by Merlot with 16% C.S., 5% Cab Franc and 2% P.V. This is an intoxicating (double meaning with 14.7% alc and its strong impression) and lush wine that first impresses you with its power and then pleases you with its smoothness and balance. While balanced, the lingering primary flavors are cassis, elegant tobacco, mild tar, and just-right toast. The flavors are supported by the tannins and pleasant acidity. This wine should age very well. 93+
Unique and distinct (5/5) Apr 20, 2007 Eric Lenard Seattle WA US
I have tasted this wine a few times and it has always been very impressive. Most recently, it provided me with an intensely memorable moment. Upon opening the bottle, I was struck by a vibrant aroma . When I poured and tasted it, my immediate and overwhelming impression was on fresh crushed pomegranates. Velvety young tannins, a bright and cleansing acidity and intense fresh fruit character were all prominently on display. The fine balance of the these components completely masked the high alcohol so that I was quite surprised that that it measures over 14%. Despoite the high alcohol, there in ont a hint of over ripened or reduced flavors. This wine is a baby and I think will be magnificent if you have the patience to wait 12-20 years.
