The palate is rich and round with initial flavors of anise, blackberry preserves, cherry cordial, a slight hint of cedar, bramble and unsweetened cocoa. Vintage Notes The driest winter in recent history gave way to a moderate Spring with good bloom conditions. Excellent set resulted in large clusters and moderate berry size. Crop thinning was performed on three occasions: pre-veraison, color thinning, and wing removal as the final adjustment. Harvest conditions were very good with ample hang time for ripe flavor development and lush flavors.

Vineyard The 2001 Rockblock Seven Hills Vineyard Syrah is sourced entirely from the Seven Hills Vineyard in the Walla Walla Valley of eastern Oregon. The vines are a Phelps (Joseph) selection and are planted on their own roots at approximately 970 vines per acre. (9x5)
