Sagelands Merlot Columbia Valley 06
Previous vintage tasting notes: Wine Press NW says: "One of the Northwest's most awarded wines in 2003 also is one of its most affordable reds. This is a delicious wine with plump berry and oak aromas with friendly, approachable flavors of sweet fruit and mocha. Won Best of Class at the Pacific Rim International Wine Competition and gold medals at the International Eastern Wine Competition, Riverside International Wine Competition and West Coast Wine Competition."
Aroma shows lots of ripe berry fruit. Aromas of black cherry and raspberry fruit are backed by bitter chocolate/cocoa powder and nice touches of smoke, fresh herbs, and a hint of leather. THe same characteristics come through in the flavors. The wine finishes with good body and a nice touch of chalky tannin. Ready to drink upon release, or it will age for up to 5 years.
Pair this Merlot with lots of different foods. Works especially well with grilled pork tenderloin, barbequed meats, especially a classic American hamburger.
