Soos Creek WinesEvery year we grab as much of the Soos Creek red wines as we can get (they are usually made in quantities of under 500 cases each.) The Larsen family consistently produces some of the best made, best value big reds in Washington State. at right, the Larsen family In 1987, Boeing executive David Larsen joined the Boeing Wine and Beermakers Club. By 1989 he had started a winery in his garage, named for a creek near his home. Today he makes his Soos Creek wines in a building near his home in Kent,Washington. Since his first attempts at winemaking in the late 1980's, Dave has purchased the best grapes in Washington, establishing relationships that continue to assure him access to some of the best vineyards in the state. His wines have always been the some of the best priced, in some cases even the lowest priced, of the dozen or so made from Champoux and Ciel du Cheval Vineyards fruit. |

More About Soos Creek Wine Cellars Soos Creek produces powerful Cabernet Sauvignons, a Merlot-Cabernet blend named "Sundance" and an "Artist Series" blend. The grapes are sourced from the Ciel du Cheval, Champoux, Charbonneau and Pepper Bridge vineyards. Established in 1989, this small family winery has developed a loyal following for their handcrafted wines. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate says: "Dave Larsen learned his craft as an amateur winemaker with the Boeing Wine Club before starting his winery in 1989. Because of his relatively early start he was able to gain access to top vineyard sources and then take advantage of them in the winery." "All Soos Creek wines are excellent values. Across the board these are wines with wonderful density and concentration, ripely balanced, plummy, mixed red fruits, and elegantly astringent tannins. Larsen gets wonderfully layered, elegant flavors without anything harsh, sharp, or rough. His wines are thoroughly professional, never a hint of volatility or other technical flaws. In short, real winemaking craft is on display here, every detail beautifully rendered, substantial but not out of whack in any way. Soos Creek is one of the great, undervalued, stellar performers in the state." WASHINGTON WINES & WINERIES - THE ESSENTIAL GUIDE, by Paul Gregutt, University of California Press. |
