Mark Vlosak's wines are carefully crafted, true
to the grape, ageable and food friendly, a delight from first sniff to
the last hint of their long, complex finish. He makes reasonably priced,
impeccably crafted Pinot noir, Pinot gris, Pinot blanc, and Chardonnay,
and the wines have a dedicated following.
You may not have heard of St Innocent - most of
the wine is sold in state or to a select group of restaurants across
the country with whom Mark has long term relationships. His devotees
are loyal and they grab everything he makes.
St Innocent's new winery
will be completed in the fall of 2007. The
winery facility will run, in large part, on
gravity-flow systems that will gently usher
fruit through fermentation and into barrels,
which will be stored as they have been traditionally—underground.
Starting from scratch after several years of
experience has allowed Vlossak to design this
facility to perform at maximum efficiency.
Mark's Pinot noirs offer everything you could ask
for, at a reasonable price. If we get enough, we try to have a "St
Innocent Month" each year for our Reserve Pinot noir Club. If not,
we dole out what we can get and hold back a bit for special tastings.
Mark makes white wines with substance and grace.
He models them on Alsacian whites, and a unifying theme among the Pinot
gris, Pinot blanc, and Chardonnays he produces is a streak of uplifting
acidity, and a stretch to express the terroir of the vineyard, and to
bring out complexity in scent, flavor, and finish.
