Territorial Pinot Gris 06

winery: Territorial

Seductive aromas of mineral, pear and apple open up to a mouth-filling mid-palate swimming with tropical fruit flavors and hints of spice. While full and viscous in the mouth, this wine is punctuated with a bright natural acidity which makes for a long clean finish. - the winery

Our Gris is more stylistically allied with its Alsatian cousin than its Italian relative, Pinot Grigio. Fifteen percent sur lie fermentation in neutral French oak imparts a roundness that the more austere Grigios lack. Now the acknowledged partner with Salmon here on the West Coast, this Gris' acidity and vibrant flavors enhance meals from Chinese tea smoked quail to linguine with clam sauce. - the winery

2005 Vintage Tasting Notes

Complex and inviting aromas of candied apple, pear, and slate that give way to bright and lively honeyed tropical citrus flavors of pineapple and lychee. Add the rich, viscous mouthfeel and you have one of the finest examples of Oregon Pinot gris we've tasted.

The Territorial Pinot gris' style is unusually rich, combining a honeyed, viscous mouthfeel with balanced, well delineated acidity and an intriguing, ocean-scented minerality. Juicy citrus flavors mingle with hints of pear, crisp apple, and honey. Have with oysters, crab, halibut, or perhaps a salad nichoise. Made from Estate fruit.

From the winery: "This wine is what a Pinot Gris, as in the grape, is all about. Pure varietal aromas welcome the palette to layers of pear and citrus. It is flawless, engaging and unhurried in the mouth, with a clean, lingering finish. On the strength of mature fruit and gentle handling, this wine is a monument to balance and varietal fidelity."
