Tyrus Evan

$17.95 Regular

in any 12 bottle order or Build a Case

Originally $36!

Jumping from the glass with beautiful aromas, this classic Cab-based blend, beaming with black cherry and black currant alongside subtle notes of tobacco. We'd sell this all day for $36 - We are just glad we don't have to! 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2026.

Previous vintage notes:

Since the start of Tyrus Evan (2003), Ken has made a Claret from Ciel du Cheval Vineyard on Red Mountain, one of Washington's most celebrated sites. His current release is 2008, a vintage we hold in very high regard. It's increasingly rare to find exceptionally made 2008s in the market (especially from Ciel du Cheval). But when your focus is making 10-plus single vineyard Pinots, your Washington red blend may end up taking a back seat.

Not fair to this outstanding Claret, a blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc and 8% Petit Verdot. Billowing with black cherry and raspberry, it is softer than many of the tannic beasts from Red Mountain, no doubt owing in part to the extended time it's had in bottle. A pure pleasure to drink, with shadings of graphite and desert herbs in background. My advice is to try this now -- I think you'll want more.

Ask any Oregon Pinot fan if they've heard of Ken Wright and at least 90% would answer yes. Ken's eponymous label is one of the Willamette Valley's best known vintners.

Ask Washington wine fans about Tyrus Evan and, well, you'll likely not find similar results. Sure, Tyrus Evan has received some great press for Syrah (95 points from Wine Spectator for the 2008 vintage) but they still fly well under the radar. Few make the connection between world-famous Ken Wright and Tyrus Evan but both are made by Ken in Carlton, Oregon. In 2003, Wright launched Tyrus Evan (the middle names of his two sons, to add further obscurity) as a complementary winery to Ken Wright Cellars, at which only non-Willamette Valley wines would be made. The fruit is sourced from southern Oregon and Washington, with a decreasing percentage coming from Southern Oregon.

Previous vintage notes: Firm, focused and vibrant, showing cherry, red currant, tobacco and mineral flavors, with a touch of espresso hovering over the long, expressive finish. The tannins have presence, but they’re not overwhelming. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Best from 2013 through 2019. - H.S.

50% Cabernet Sauvignon 25% Merlot, 20% Petit Verdot, 5% Cabernet Franc, all from Washington's Ciel du Cheval Vineyard.
