Wine Spectator rating 93 points and "Hot Wine" 7/22/04:"The Syrah grapes come from several sites, most of them on stony soils on the south side of Walla Walla. The result is a big, rich, ripe and graceful wine with layers and layers of dense blackberry, cherry, plum, game and peppery spice flavors that linger on the long, generous, firm finish.
Impressive now, but give it time. Best from 2006 through 2012. From Washington.-H.S."
From the winery: "Whitman Cellars small production of Syrah - only 124 cases - was fermented in small stainless steel bins and punched-down by hand for gentle color and tannin extraction. This wine was pressed to two year old French oak barrels and aged fourteen months.
Whitman Cellars Syrah describes itself with cinnamon, nutmeg, cola, blackberry, and black cherry with refined velvety tannins. It will age nicely for the next 5 years."
