Washington Wine - Andrew Will Champoux and Sorella 08's

Chris Camarda, owner and winemaker at Andrew Will WineryThe 2008 Andrew Will Champoux and Sorella are my kind of Andrew Will reds – heavy on the Cab, awesome to drink. The 08′s blow away the previous 2 vintages – I have to think back to the 05 vintage for such indelible wines.

Best since 2005 – those are the first 3 words I wrote. The aromas are a little shy but come to life quickly and then pow! Black cherry, blue berry, a dash of super deep black fruit with something that I can only describe as savory-earthy-mouthwatering-damn-I-love-this. This has amazing depth, with levity in the form of subtle crushed herbs mingling with tannins on the finish. 46% Cabernet, 26% Merlot, 23% Cab Franc, 5% Petit Verdot.

Brawn and brains. 08 Sorella is 80% Cab from Champoux Vineyard’s famed Block 1 – planted in 1972, it’s Washington’s best Cabernet site. The nose is showy – black currant, cedary black cherry, dustings of baking spices, licorice and tar leading to a massive palate (brawn), while holding onto thoughtful complexity and refinement (brains). 80% Cabernet, 14% Cabernet Franc, 6% Merlot.
