The Illahe Vineyards Reserve Pinot noir 08 hit me like a bombshell.
At a recent tasting of some of Oregon’s pre-eminent Pinot noirs, the Illahe hit me hard. It’s a new contender for my list of the Top Twenty 2008 Pinots, especially at $32.36.
The 2008 Reserve is a blockbuster. A nose of blackberry, cedar, forest floor, and sweet spice only hints at the intense, round, tremendously impressive dark fruit and spice box flavors. Even though it’s clearly young there’s so much to enjoy - the juicy blackberry and dark cherry fruit floats above the mix. Only 150 cases were made.
I’ll be putting some away in my cellar but for right now it’s so good I’m drinking it.
