The Best 2012 Pinots Yet

Walter Scott Winery peoplePut simply, the Walter Scott 2012 Pinots are “must-haves.” It’s the best line-up of 2012s I’ve tasted yet.

Today’s offering is several months in the making. I first barrel tasted the Walter Scott 2012s in September 2013. They were already smoking!

Now they’re in bottle and ready to ship March 1. I’m so excited about these limited single vineyard releases that I didn’t even have time to add the products to the website. You can order them by email or phone only.

(at right, Walter Scott’s dynamic duo has become a terrific trio)

Walter Scott Temperance Hill
Vineyard Pinot noir 2012
$40.45 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($44.95 regular)
Distinct and fricking gorgeous. Our unanimous favorite of the line-up. Equal parts supple, concentrated, balanced, it’s damn near perfect Pinot noir. There’s so much going on it’s difficult to capture in a note: attractive fruit, complementary sweet, savory and spicy elements. Only 75 cases made from one acre of 22 year-old Temperance Hill vines. Buy it.

Walter Scott Dumb Ox Pinot noir 2012
$40.45 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($44.95 regular)
A very close second in the line-up, Dumb Ox shows ultra-delicious blue and purple fruits, with hints of violet and ribbon of raspberry pie woven throughout. Juicy and deep from start to finish, with dried thyme accents adding length. Only 125 cases made from the 23 year-old “Dumb Ox” block of Eola Springs Vineyard.

Walter Scott Freedom Hill Vineyard Pinot noir 2012
$40.45 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($44.95 regular)
Darker and a touch mysterious, heaping buckets of dark cherries and a flash of blood orange and sweet cinnamon. Finishes with structure and rustic elegance. Only 125 cases made, and one of the finest expressions of Freedom Hill to date. Ken’s familiarity with the vineyard dates back well over a decade to his time at St. Innocent.

Walter Scott Clos des Oiseaux Pinot noir 2012
$35.95 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($39.95 regular)
The most forward and fruity of the new Walter Scott Pinots is rich and deep, with an almost cassis-like intensity blended with black cherry. It’s lush and ready to drink. 325 cases made. (pronounced wah-ZOH)

Walter Scott Cuvee Anne Chardonnay 2012
$35.95 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($39.95 regular)
My personal favorite of the two Chardonnays pours forth with lemons and pears, on a frame that has both great weight and delicacy. Finishing cleanly with nice cut and a subtle hint of banana bread. Only 90 cases made from Bieze Vineyard, which sits directly above the famed Seven Springs Vineyard.

Walter Scott Vojtilla Vineyard Chardonnay Vineyard Chardonnay 2012
$35.95 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($39.95 regular)
Andy’s personal favorite of the two Chardonnays balances acidity and depth of fruit. It rolls over your tongue in waves; a zip of lime courses from beginning to end with higher tones of juniper. Very limited, only 55 cases made. (pronounced voy-TIL-uh)
