Witness Tree Winery & Elemental Cellars
Witness Tree Vineyard is named
for a huge and ancient oak tree high on a ridge overlooking the vineyard.
The tree was used as a surveyor's landmark in 1854- it's striking silhouette
hangs above the rows of green vines, a silent watcher.
Witness Tree makes small amounts of very highly
rated Pinot noir and Chardonnay. A small amount of dessert wine, Pinot
Blanc, and Viognier were made from the 2002 harvest.
Elemental Cellars is
a second label at Witness Tree. A non-vintage Pinot noir is made from
declassified fruit, and delicious
dry rosé and a nice fruity Syrah are also available in small quantities.
Bryce Bagnall has been the winemaker since 1995,
and his tenure has resulted in vintages of increasing quality. Witness
Tree Vineyard is well worth a visit and a taste- the wines have
both complexity and distinction.
Bryce Bagnall was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's
Disease) in the summer of 2003. A group of friends, calling themselves the
"SOBs" (Supporters of Bryce) have gathered together to support Bryce. Their
website is www.supportersofbryce.org.
